People in the world are starting to realize that religion is being exploited on such a large scale that it no longer holds any value other than a social event. Often you'll find strongly religions individuals are very close minded or blinder wearers who have difficulty grasping the larger picture. They prefer absolutes. This is NOT reflective of all religious individuals. With the ease of obtaining information people are becoming smarter about the world and the "truths" they once held as fact, are tested against scientifically proven and repeatable explanations (evolution, chemistry etc). People are starting to realize that religion was more a method of control that came out of a time where there were few laws, no moral code, and the world was a very different place. (See many of the religions rules associated with women).
Religion has tried to adapt and grow but that's where the problems arise. There is only so far one can fudge a translation until it directly conflicts with it's meaning. (see anything about marriage, homosexual and womens 'duty')
My last point is that many religions individuals (not limited to Christians) pick and choose what they remember. For example... fun fact about the bible: Did you know that God killed over 2,000,000 people in the bible and that's not including the towns that were wiped out that didn't quote numbers. That's like saying you worship Hitler... he did the same thing to the jews.
It's time people stop and evaluate their own opinions and beliefs. I'm not saying you can't believe in God or Vishnu, or whoever you believe in, but I am saying that you need to have a strong basis for what you believe in. Not just "God said so" or "The bible says". If I read a book and I agree with a statement I don't say "Because so-n-so said". I explain my belief in said opinion.
Unfortunately for the religions organizations, many people are starting to do that. That's very fortunate for the rest of us.
